Sending power levels soaring through the roof, Volvo launched its mightiest offering at an event in Delhi on Wednesday. The XC90T8 Twin Engine, in its hybrid avatar, has been priced at Rs 1.25 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car will also be the first big SUV to get a plug-in hybrid variant in India, steering past the likes of the Audi Q7, the BMW X5, the Range Rover Sport and the Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Speaking about the exteriors of the car, major changes include an external charging port cover on the left fender, which is commonplace in the hybrid vehicle quarters. The rest of the styling is retained from the diesel XC90, apart from the new T8 badging on the tailgate. Elsewhere, the car features a rectangular 'iron mask' grille, a sleek set of projector headlamps with the signature Thor's Hammer daytime running LEDs and L-shaped taillamps. The SUV rests on a quartet of gigantic 20-inch wheels while 19-inchers are also optionally available.

The biggest change on the inside is that the hybrid XC90 is a four-seater as opposed to the current seven-seater version. Otherwise the car shares similar features from the existing variants, barring the 20-speaker premium surround sound Bower and Wilkins audio system.

Coming to the heart of things, the hybrid powertrain witnesses the marriage of a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor to an electric motor, to dish out 412 horses and a best-in-class 650Nm of torque. The car will race to 100 kmph from dead halt in 5.6 seconds, the company claimed on the occasion.
As a result of the hybrid setup, the Swedish manufacturer has also claimed an astounding fuel economy of 47.6kmpl. With the hybrid XC90, you also get two charging stations that can charge the car up within 150 minutes. Worth mentioning here is that the T8 will only be available in the top-end Excellence trim of the Volvo XC90, according to the company.
