Northland features heavily in Kiwi supermodel Rachel Hunter's favourite New Zealand spots in an interview with influential US fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar.
Hunter is a regular visitor to Northland, for work - she filmed an Air New Zealand in-flight safety video in the Bay of Islands in 2016 as well as posting many snaps taken in Northland on her instagram account in the past two years.
In early 2017 she left a pair of jandals on the world-famous in Northland jandal fence in Kaeo. And in March the yoga guru held "intimate evening of conversation" in Whangarei.
Now, in an article in the latest on-line edition of the magazine, headed Supermodel Rachel Hunter dishes on her favorite New Zealand spots, Hunter has given her account of the best things about New Zealand. From romantic beach rendezvous to the best routes for a family road trip, Hunter lists eight categories.
In the Best Road Trip section Hunter says her favourite trip as a mum was taking the kids from Auckland to Rotorua for a cultural and educational trip she described as amazing.
She also loved filming a road trip segment for Air New Zealand in the Bay of Islands.
Then in the Best YOLO (you only live once) section she named the Hokianga.
''After filming the Air New Zealand video in the Bay of Islands, Hunter watched the final product and became enamoured by a segment shot on the famous sand dunes of nearby Hokianga,'' the article says.
''So, during a trip home last January she seized the moment and booked a flight to the West Coast town [sic].''
Hunter said: "I felt like I'd missed out. I had to go and see these sand dunes. Seeing those dunes took my breath away. It was amazing sitting there and talking to the iwi [tribe], seeing [sacred Kauri tree] Tane Mahuta and hearing the history of the people of Hokianga after watching that video."
Of course, any good yolo moment comes with a side of danger and Hunter's experience did veer towards terrifying at one point: "The one crazy thing was that I decided to go and look at the sand caves by myself and these seagulls were nesting and fully attacked me," she said.
"I had to throw myself around a big bird and it was crazy. So don't go during nesting season!"
No doubt, though, Hunter will be back in the Northland again.
