FIN-Dependence Day Fireworks will take place Monday at Legion Stadium after Wilmington Sharks baseball game, which starts at 7:05 p.m.

North Carolina 4th of July Festival will be held Monday through Wednesday in Southport, hosted by the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce. Entertainment, fireworks, Franklin Square Art Gallery’s National Art Show, Shine & Show Classic Car Show, voter registration, old jail tours, used book sale, Lions Club Boat Raffle drawing, Cape Fear Yacht Club’s Commodore Regatta, St. Philip Episcopal Chapel of the Cross Open, children’s entertainment, children’s games, pancake breakfast, and firefighters competition. There will be fireworks at the Ocean Isle Beach Pier at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Wilmington residents get to race it out along the Cross City Trail while giving back to military and first-responders during The Battle for Independence Race. The race festivities kick off at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pointe at Barclay shopping center with the start and end points at Orangetheory Fitness South Wilmington, 1412 Barclay Pointe Blvd. Everyone from skilled runners to families and children are invited to run for cash prizes, bragging rights and to give back. All proceeds from the 5K and one-mile kids race go directly to Step Up for Soldiers, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization assisting recently disabled veterans. Their mission is to provide disabled veterans, who have experienced loss of limb and mobility problems, with the resources necessary to adjust in a post-war environment. The course travels from The Pointe at Barclay to Halyburton Park and back for flat and easy running conditions. The New Hanover County Veterans Council will presents its annual Independence Day program at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wilmington National Cemetery, 2011 Market St., Wilmington. The guest speaker will be Captain Wilbur Jones, a retired Naval officer and local historian. The public is invited. 4th of July Open House at Hannah Block: 1-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hannah Block Historic/USO Community Arts Center, 120 S. Second St. Thalian Association Community Theatre at the Community Arts Center open house. The staff will be in 1940’s era costumes, serving free coffee and doughnuts courtesy. Sodas will be sold for five cents (World War II price). Remember the music and movement of the 1940’s with the Cape Fear Swing Dance Society as they offer free lessons (2 p.m. and 4 p.m.) for the popular dances of the era including, the Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing and the Collegiate Shag. The documentary film "Home Away From Home – the USO" will be shown all afternoon on the Hannah Block 2nd Street Stage. The 5-minute film was produced in 2016 by Emmy nominated filmmaker Rob Hill to honor the 75th anniversary of the Historic USO Building. The film captures the building’s rich history beginning with WWII, the transition to a community center and how it continues to serve our community today. The Sunset Beach Concert will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 in The Village at Sunset Beach near the Planetarium. The band performing will be Blue Pickups Band playing country and rock music. Bring your lawn chairs and refreshments. Food available on-site.

"The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" will be presented by Thalian Association Community Theatre, 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. July Friday and Saturday at Battleship North Carolina, 1 Battleship Road, N.E., Wilmington. $15-$30. $25-$50 on July 4. The play by Herman Wouk based on his Pulitzer-Prize winning novel. A young lieutenant relieves his captain of command during a typhoon because the captain, Queeg is a psychopath in crisis and commanded the ship and its crew to destruction. Naval tradition is against him, but testimony eventually reveals a devastating picture of Queeg’s mental disintegration.

Holly Ridge and Sneads Ferry Liberty Fest and Fireworks will take place in Holly Ridge Municipal Park at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Fireworks by the Sea and Boardwalk Blast will be at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk at 9 p.m. Thursday.
