77 New Springtime Hotel Openings Worth Visiting This Year

As spring weather slowly begins to appear on the horizon, so too are dozens of new hotels around the world opening their doors for the first time. Representing an array of international brands as well as independent names, these hotels are among the most exciting properties to consider for trips later this year. These 77 hotels are opening between the months of March and May on six continents around the world.

Northeast and Mid-Atlantic

Part of the JdV by Hyatt brand and the World of Hyatt portfolio, The Pell opens this April in Middletown, Rhode Island. It is close to area beaches, walking trails and wineries. It has its own library and lounge with an outdoor firepit.

Hotel Canandaigua, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, opens in the Finger Lakes region in May with 109 rooms and suites overlooking Canandaigua Lake. Wine tours, water activities and shopping are all within close vicinity to the hotel.

Visitors to Harlem, New York, now have a new Marriott Bonvoy option when the Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel opens in May. This will be the fifth hotel for the Renaissance brand in the city.

Penny Williamsburg opens in Brooklyn in May as a hybrid of hotel and graduate student housing for Bard College. The apartment-style accommodations and guest rooms work for both long and short-stay guests. It will have a rooftop bar and restaurant, public art and panoramic skyline-view terraces.

Manhattan’s Design District will welcome the new Hotel AKA NoMad in May with a range of interior decor influences from Japan to Scandinavia. Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni led the project.

Farther south, Lissoni’s first-ever U.S. hotel project will open in April with Hotel AKA Alexandria in the historic Old Town Alexandria neighborhood. A signature “floating staircase” is one of Lissoni’s most notable pieces in the property.

Southern States

Embassy Suites by Hilton Panama City Beach Resort comes to the popular resort destination and brings the Hilton Honors’ brands signature family-friendly amenities like complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast, two-room suites and an evening happy hour with free drinks and snacks. It sits just across from Panama City Public Beach Access Point 54.

JW Marriott Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa is a new beachfront luxury option on Florida’s Gulf Coast. In addition to a full kids club and watersports center, all of the 162 rooms and suites have balconies facing the 300 feet of private beach.

Hotel Hartness opens in Greenville, South Carolina in a historic family home plus 69 rooms and four spa suites. The in-house Spa H will offer CBD treatments while using seasonal ingredients from the area.

Across the state in Charleston, Hotel Palmetto opens this month in the city’s French quarter. Guests are treated to daily breakfast and bikes to use during their stay.

On Lookout Mountain overlooking Chattanooga at Ruby Falls, The Elements Treehouse opens this month for guests. Host of the TV show Treehouse Masters Pete Nelson is responsible for its modern design.

On the campus of University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, Kimpton The Forum Hotel opens in April with a craft beer bar, American steakhouse and outdoor botanical arboretum with walking trails and gardens.

JW Marriott Dallas Arts District will become the first JW Marriott in Dallas when it opens in May. It will be one block from the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and Crow Museum of Asian Arts.

Debuting Memorial Day weekend, the Ozarker Lodge will provide a modern lodge experience with family-friendly rooms equipped with bunk beds close to the heart of Branson.

Central States

Omni PGA Frisco Resort opens in Texas this May as part of Omni’s growing luxury portfolio that blends sophisticated meeting space and accommodations with sports and spa amenities. In addition to 500 rooms, it also has 10 four-bedroom Texas Ranch Houses, an adults-only rooftop pool and two 18-hole championship courses designed by Gil Hanse and Beau Welling.

The Junto in Columbus Ohio opens in May with 198 rooms and suites and plentiful public space for co-working and get-togethers.

In April, Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown opens for guests with 218 rooms and suites, meeting space and a bistro restaurant.

In early May, Hotel Genevieve in Louisville, Kentucky will open with a French restaurant with Southern influences under the helm of a soon-to-be-announced James Beard-nominated female chef. The hotel is named for the patron saint of Paris, Saint Genevieve, which pays homage to the city’s own French roots.

In Lexington, Kentucky’s distillery district, a new hotel will be coming this May. The Manchester sits on former grounds of the area’s first registered bourbon distillery with historic architecture and signature horse and bourbon design woven throughout.

West Coast and Hawaii

The Leo Kent Hotel, Tucson, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, will open in late April offering travelers a new Marriott Bonvoy option in the Old Pueblo area of Tucson. Elements of southwestern design are evident throughout the property.

Closer to Phoenix, the Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU will open in April with some of the largest meeting space in the city, including outdoor space overlooking campus.

AC Hotel Los Angeles Downtown will open in May in conjunction with its previously announced Moxy neighbor. The dual-branded hotel towers 37 floors across from the LA Convention Center and Staples Center.

Palihotel San Diego opens in May in a 1922 historic building with 122 rooms in the city’s famous Gaslamp Quarter. This is the first hotel for the brand in the market.

In honor of former University of Colorado president Bruce Benson, The Benson Hotel and Faculty Club opens on the campus in April as part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts group.

Limelight Hotel Denver opens in Denver this May; it was once the Born Hotel. This is the first urban hotel for the Limelight brand, which also has properties in resort destinations like Aspen and Snowmass.

Across from the Salem Convention Center, the new Holman Riverfront Park Hotel Salem, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is expected to open later this month. Riverfront City Park, home to the Salem Carousel, is across the street.

PACIFIC 19 Kona opens in April on Hawaii’s big island with many bucolic elements brought indoors like a giant monkeypod tree and numerous plants and flowers. Daily yoga classes, live music and weekend food trucks will be part of the amenity roster.

Europe

Porto, Portugal welcomes a new Hilton Honors property in April. Arts Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is housed in a historical 18th century building and is close to area tourist sights, shopping and the Sao Bento train station.

IHG One Rewards fans have a new option in Porto, too. Vignette Collection Casa da Companhia opens later this month with 40 rooms in a historic 18th century building in the city’s Clérigos district.

Hilton Garden Inn is expanding its portfolio in Europe with two openings this spring. Hilton Garden Inn Evora opens in Portugal in May a short walk from the Royal Palace of Evora and the Chapel of Bones. Climb to its rooftop for panoramic views of town.

Selina Berlin Mitte opened this month with 84 rooms, a rooftop terrace with co-working space and a soon-to-open radio station that will broadcast a weekly podcast.

Also in May, Hilton Garden Inn Paris La Villette opens on the edge of Paris in the La Vilette District. It is within walking distance of the City of Science and Industry and the Paris Event Center.

Business travelers in Marseille have a new option with the May opening of the Crowne Plaza Marseille Le Dôme. It adds a heated outdoor pool and Mediterranean-Italian restaurant to its ample meeting space.

Along the Cote d’Azur, Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel, joined the luxury brand earlier this month and will participate in the IHG One Rewards program. The twin domes of its Belle Epoque facade are a notable landmark in the Mediterranean city’s beachfront promenade, La Croisette.

Yet another luxury addition to the Marriott Bonvoy landscape is the new JW Marriott opening this month in the center of the city. It will be within walking distance of the Spanish capital’s Golden Triangle of art as well as the Royal Palace, Gran Via and Plaza Mayor among other tourist areas.

Surrounded by lavender fields, The Lodge Mallorca opens near Campanet on the Spanish Balearic Island. With two dozen suites, a restaurant with wood-burning fire kitchen focused on healthy cuisine and an indoor pool. The property is part of the Unico Hotels group. It will be part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, which has a partnership with World of Hyatt.

Also in Mallorca, Villa Can Totxa opens in May with space to sleep as many as eight people in a classically designed farmhouse.

In May, Murcia, Spain will be home to the country’s first Grand Hyatt when Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf and Spa opens. In addition to sports and wellness activities, the luxury property will have locally-sourced dining and a sushi bar.

In the north of Spain, IHG One Rewards members have a new option opening in May between Bilbao’s tourist attractions and the countryside. Holiday Inn Express Bilbao – Sestao will offer complimentary breakfast to guests of its 105 rooms and suites.

The Patricia Urquiola-designed Six Senses Rome opens this month in the Eternal City. Local elements about from the 600-year-old columns in the entrance to the travertine stone found in the area. Triclinium-style marble seating on the terraces is another nod to the destination. Even the hotel’s mascot, Aurelia the She-Wolf, is an ode to Rome. She is said to have nursed Rome’s twin founders Romulus and Remus.

Another luxury opening in town is the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, housed in the former American Embassy Library that was built to host visiting ambassadors. Its rooftop lounge will have a cocktail menu and live music when it opens in May.

In a former 19th century fortress, this small island off the coast of Kotor, Montenegro will be home to Mamula Island, a member of Design Hotels. The hotel’s chef once worked at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris.

Another new Design Hotels member opens in April on the Greek island of Tinos. Pnoēs Tinos will feature private villas with their own pools and fireplaces plus lush gardens with fresh vegetables, herbs, tea flowers for infusions and an orchard.

On Greece’s Evia Island, the new Selina Kaminos Evia opens in April. The property is built around a traditional kaminos (chimney) near the beach. It will feature a pool with bar, movie room, yoga deck and co-working space.

In Oslo’s West End neighborhood, Villa Inkognito opens next month as part of the elegant Sommerro boutique hotel. It is part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts family of luxury hotels. The historic building dates back centuries, but has been transformed into a private villa that is part of the hotel.

Middle East and Africa

Welcoming reservations in April, JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge will be a new Marriott Bonvoy option for travelers to this cherished safari destination. As part of the lodge, there will be 20 guest tents, including the option for two to connect with riverview private terraces. There is also a presidential tent that serves as an even larger suite.

The Bushcamp Company’s KuKaya opens in April on the land of former President of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda’s vacation home. Each of the six thatch-roofed chalets features its own sleeping areas, private pool, indoor and outdoor living and dining areas, a kitchen and pizza oven. Local Zambian design fills the space, which is the home base for visitors on their bespoke safari experience.

laïla, Seychelles, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, part of the Marriott Bonvoy collection, opens in April on the Seychelles’ largest island with 76 rooms, multiple dining options and a watersports center.

Selina Dakhla sits on the edge of a lagoon, popular for kitesurfing. Visitors also come to the region for sand boarding on the dunes, ATV riding and boating. It will also have the city’s only CoWork space.

Asia

IHG arrived in Uzbekistan earlier this month with the opening of the new InterContinental Tashkent. The luxury hotel is one of the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certified projects in the country.

In May, Sheraton’s newest design and brand overhaul comes to Japan for the first time with the opening of Sheraton Kagoshima Hotel. Meant to be a social hub for the community, the lobby features Sheraton’s new community tables, studios and booths for co-working and get-togethers.

Bulgari’s Italian style is now coming to Tokyo as the eighth hotel for the brand. It will open the first week of April on floors between 40-45 in the Tokyo Midtown Yaesu skyscraper. Interiors count numerous Italian luxury furniture brands like Maxalto, Flexform and B&B Italia in the design.

IHG’s voco brand opens its first property in Osaka in May with the voco Osaka Central. It is part of the historical Kyomachi Building and close to the city’s Utsubo Park.

Also in Japan, Hoshino Resorts OMO5 Kumamoto opens in April with 160 rooms with design inspired by the region’s surrounding mountains and waterfalls.

Innit Lombok in Indonesia opens this month as part of the Design Hotels group. Its two-bedroom, standalone beach houses are modern takes of the traditional Lombok Lumbung-style house.

In the Maldives, Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort opens in April on the western edge of the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It has its own private reef for snorkeling as well as a variety of accommodations including overwater villas.

With amazing views of the Son Tra Peninsula, the new Hilton Garden Inn Da Nang opens in May. The hotel has a rooftop pool and bar. It is less than a mile from the famous My Khe Beach.

Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai opens in Thailand this April and will be part of The Leading Hotels of the World group. With 44 rooms and suites, including one and two-bedroom pool villas and a four-bedroom teak wood residence with private pool, the hotel has a library, spa and art gallery.

South Pacific

The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne opened this month marking another new Marriott Bonvoy brand for the Australian city to open in the past year. This panoramic tower has its lobby on the 80th floor and a sky-level, infinity-edge pool.

Marriott continues its opening spree in Victoria with Le Méridien Melbourne, which opened this month overlooking Fitzroy Gardens and Parliament.

Dorsett Melbourne will open in May with 316 rooms and suites in the city center. It will provide another choice for visitors wanting a mix of business and leisure amenities.

In the heritage-listed, former Department of Education building of the country’s largest city, Capella Sydney debuted its famed hospitality with an opening this month. This is the first property for the brand on the continent.

Coburg, Australia’s historic Pentridge Prison site is now home to a new luxury hotel. As part of a mixed-use development, The Interlude will open in April. This is one of just a handful of prison hotel conversions around the world.

This month also saw a new opening in Adelaide’s South Terrace with the arrival of Hotel Alba, not far from the main downtown area. Guests can choose between parkland or city vistas.

Mexico and the Caribbean

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye welcomed its first guests this month. The resort is just steps away from the world’s second largest coral reef, which is sure to draw snorkelers and drivers to the property.

Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort, Autograph Collection is a new option for Marriott Bonvoy fans on St. Thomas in April. Guests can enjoy oceanview pools, a beach and private catamaran.

Hilton Garden Inn La Romana comes to the Dominican Republic this May on the Caribbean coast. It is the first for the brand in the country.

Sandals Dunn’s River opens in May as part of the all-inclusive brand’s resort collection. The property includes a dozen international restaurants as well as its signature Red Lane Spa experience using water from Dunn’s River into the pools.

Nobu Residences Los Cabos opens later this month with 60 one-to-four-bedroom units with the brand’s well-known Japanese design. Each has a kitchen, and many have a private plunge pool. Around the property are four more swimming pools, spa and fine dining restaurants.

Part of Hyatt’s Timeless Collection, Hyatt Regency Mexico City Insurgentes will open in May close to the popular La Condesa neighborhood. Its onsite dining options will serve Mexican fare.

The adults-only Secrets Impression Isla Mujeres opens in May as part of World of Hyatt’s The Inclusive Collection. Hyatt’s focus on growing its all-inclusive portfolio is adding more luxury resorts like this one, which is on a paradise island off the coast of Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

This month, the 225-room Hilton Monterrey opens in this northern Mexican city with business traveler-friendly amenities and a sixth-floor pool and bar. It will also have one of the city’s largest ballrooms.

This month, IHG opens its first voco property in Guadalajara. voco Guadalajara Neruda is in the city’s financial district and will draw both business travelers and tourists.

The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya opens this month in a mangrove forest on a 620-acre nature reserve along Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It will be another of the many Marriott Bonvoy options to open in the region.

Latin America

This month, Lodge in the Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia opened as part of The Explora Travesia, which counts four properties in its fold. This new lodge has six rooms and puts guests up close and personal to the world’s largest salt flats.

Hotel Fasano Itaim becomes the second Fasano Group hotel to open in Sao Paulo this April. It will be part of a larger commercial and mixed-use complex in the bustling Itaim Bibi neighborhood and join The Leading Hotels of the World luxury group.

Not far is the new Qoya Hotel Sao Paulo, Curio Collection by Hilton with a rooftop swimming pool, numerous restaurants including an Italian option and meeting space. It opens this month.
