"Energy infrastructure is often targeted in conflicts, and we understand Ukraine's need to secure a reliable electricity supply," Fico highlighted.
The meeting also focused on defense cooperation, particularly in demining Ukrainian territories and exploring the use of specialized excavators. Slovakia confirmed its ongoing support for Ukraine with military supplies on a commercial basis. Discussions extended to the strategic diversification of gas imports to Europe, highlighting the broader implications of their partnership for European energy security.
On the economic front, the discussions addressed the sensitive issue of agricultural trade. Prime Minister Fico assured that Slovakia would provide corridors for Ukrainian agricultural exports but stressed the importance of protecting Slovak agricultural interests. Without a joint resolution, Slovakia would maintain its import ban on 14 specified agricultural products.
