Iran-Sri Lanka Cooperation to Nullify Hostile Pressures: Raisi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deploring Western pressures on independent states, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said closer regional and international cooperation with Sri Lanka could neutralize such hostile attempts.

“Westerners do not want our progress and for this reason, they resort to human rights tactics to put pressure on independent countries, so it is necessary to strengthen the regional and international cooperation between the two countries in order to neutralize these enmities,” Raisi said at a meeting of the high-ranking delegations of Iran and Sri Lanka, held in Colombo on Wednesday.

He noted that the two Asian countries have suitable infrastructures in the tourism industry, pointing to the ample opportunities for regional and international cooperation that would fulfill the interests of Iran and Sri Lanka.

The president also condemned the continuation of the Zionist regime's genocide in Gaza, calling for coordinated action by the Islamic and independent countries to stop the Israeli crimes, lift the blockade of Gaza, and deliver aid to the oppressed and powerful people of Gaza.

The Iranian president and his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe also attended a joint press conference after a ceremony during which the two countries signed five cooperation documents in various fields.

In comments upon his return to Tehran on Thursday morning after official visits to Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Raisi said good decisions have been made to bolster ties between Tehran and Islamabad. “In the field of commercial and economic cooperation, with the agreement of the two countries, the exchange volume was set to reach $10 billion in the first step.”

On the fruitful visit to Colombo, where he inaugurated a multi-purpose hydroelectric project carried out by Iranian experts, Raisi said Iran has great capacities in various fields, including the export of technical and engineering services.
