The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men’s volleyball team is all set for participation in the upcoming Africa Club Championship, scheduled for April 17-30, 2025, in Misurata, Libya.
Eng. Mathews Amuti, General Manager for Infrastructure Development, handed over the national flag on behalf of Managing Director Capt. William Ruto, urging the team to uphold discipline and represent KPA and Kenya with pride.
He expressed the Authority’s confidence in the team and anticipated an improved performance in the continental tournament. KPA qualified for the championship as the second runners-up in the 2023-24 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s National League Playoffs.
They join General Service Unit (GSU) and Prisons Kenya as the country’s representatives. This marks KPA’s fifth appearance in the annual championship, organized by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), with the team finishing in the top-10 last year in Cairo, Egypt.
Head Coach James Ontere aims to lead his team to a podium finish this year. The General Manager assured the team of the Authority’s support and pledged a grand reception upon their return with improved results.
Administration Manager Catherine Wangare, receiving the flag on behalf of Head of Delegation Geoffrey Kavate, assured the Authority and the volleyball fraternity that the team is well-prepared for the championship, having undergone rigorous training in a residential camp in Mombasa.
KVF assistant Treasurer Moses Mbuthia commended the team for its resilience and focus, describing them as well-prepared for the high-level competition.
The KPA team’s participation underscores Kenya’s growing presence in continental volleyball, with the team aiming to improve on last year’s performance and compete for a top spot in Misurata.
